“The worst lies we tell, are the lies we tell ourselves.” Richard Bach

I’ve always thought of myself as a “no excuses” kind of person until I read Marie Forleo’s “Everything is Figureoutable.” She taught me two words to slaughter the excuses I thought I wasn’t making: “Can’t” and “Won’t.”

The word “Can’t” is a euphemism for “Won’t.” “Can’t” puts the blame on others. “Won’t” puts the blame where it belongs: on us (meaning you… or me.)

Let me show you. Do any of these sound familiar:

I can’t because I don’t know how. I can’t because I’m not a techie. I can’t because I don’t have the money.

Now replace all the “Can’ts” with “Won’t.” I won’t because I don’t know how. I won’t because I’m not a techie. I won’t because I don’t have the money.

See the difference? Won’t doesn’t mean you’re lazy, it just means you’re honest… with yourself. Maybe you don’t want to take risks, maybe you don’t want to get uncomfortable, but at least you’re being honest with yourself and taking responsibility instead of putting the blame elsewhere, and then nothing ever will get done.

You are 100% responsible for your life, your business always in all ways. You’re not responsible for others’ actions or injustices but you’re responsible for how you act as a result.
